TANCET Examination 2017 – Exam Timetable and More

TANCET, which can be expanded as ‘Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test’, is conducted every year by the Anna University on behalf of the state government. This examination is taken by the students who are looking to enter any of the following degree programs in Tamil Nadu:

  • MBA
  • MCA
  • M.E.
  • M.Tech
  • M.Arch
  • M.Plan

Passing the TANCET exam would allow you to enter the above degree programs offered by the Anna University, regional centers of the university, government arts and science colleges, government engineering colleges, government-aided arts and science colleges, government-aided engineering colleges, and self-financing colleges in the state.

About the TANCET Examination:

This is a state-run examination and in order to take part in this exam, you should have completed your minimum education. The following eligibility criteria will help you decide whether you can/can’t apply for the TANCET 2017. I would advise you to read it thoroughly and understand before applying.

TANCET 2017 – Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must have any of the following degrees:
    • B.E.
    • B.Tech
    • B.Arch
    • B.Pharm
    • B.Sc (Agriculture, Forestry, Fishery or Horticulture)
    • B.Sc
  • You must have passed the above degrees with at least 50% of marks in order to be considered for General category or 45% of marks in order to be considered for the reserved category

Apart from the above-mentioned degrees, you can also apply if you have a certification from the professional bodies or societies like A.M.I.E. that are accepted by the ‘Ministry of Human Resource Development’. In such cases, you will be considered as equal to the B.E or B.Tech degree holders if you have at least two years of working experience. It is to be noted that you will be required to submit the experience proof in order to be considered.

TANCET 2017 – Application Fee:

For General category applicants, the application fee of 500 INR will be applicable whereas, the reserved category (SC/ST/OBC) applicants will be required to pay 250 INR as the application fee.

TANCET 2017 – Examination Pattern:

Following is the examination pattern for TANCET 2017. Understanding the exam pattern would help the candidates to prepare well. So, here is the pattern for your reference:

There will be three parts in the exam paper out of which two parts are common for all the candidates. The third one will vary depending on the chosen discipline. Here are the split-ups by part:

  • Part 1: 30 questions
  • Part 2: 30 questions
  • Part 3: 40 questions in the chosen discipline

Each correct answer will give you one mark while for every wrong answer; you will get a -¼ mark.
