What is RIO 2016



RIO 2016 is a primary international multi-sport tournament which is officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad or summer Olympics. This year it is organized in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 5th August to 21st August. Around 207 National Olympic Committees are taking part in this year with more than 11,000 athletes. The event include, 28 Olympic sports with 306 sets of medals and a total of 41 disciplines. All these events are running at 33 venues in the host city and at five in Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Manaus and Brasilia. This is the first Summer Olympic event under the presidency of IOC of Thomas Bach. The opening ceremony of RIO 2016 took place in the Maracana Stadium, under the direction of Fernando Meirelles, Andrucha Waddington and Daniela Thomas.

P V Sindhu – Hope of India in RIO 2016

The badminton player P V Sindhu (21) has uplifted the hope of Olympic medal for India by beating the match with Wang Yihan (28) of China, by 22-20 and 21-19 in a match of 54 minutes on Tuesday i.e. 16/08/16. P V Sindhu is already a winner of bronze medal in the World Championship by two times. She is the second Indian woman who reaches the Olympic badminton semi final, after Saina Nehwal. On 21st of August Sindhu will meet Japan’s sixth seed Nozomi Okuhara. Her coach is P Gopichand, who is an international player. Media greeted the victory of Sindhu . One user tweeted on her victory “India is behind you” and others retwitted “the girl is on fire”. Only three days left for India to win a medal from Olympic Games. If this time India returns back without any medal then it will be the first time since 1992 that Indian athletes will return empty handed. So all hopes and eyes are on P V Sindhu. Lets see whether she will be able to meet the expectation of all Indians.
